Welcome to the VILLAGE OF MALONE’S
Downtown Revitalization Initiative

The Village of Malone will receive $10 million in funding as the North Country region’s winner of the eighth round of Downtown Revitalization Initiative funding from New York State!

New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) is a cornerstone of the State’s economic development program.

The DRI transforms downtown neighborhoods into vibrant, walkable centers that offer a high quality of life and are magnets for redevelopment, business, job creation, and economic and housing diversity. The DRI is led by the Department of State, in close partnership with Empire State Development, NYS Homes and Community Renewal, and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority with support by a team of planning consultants.

Malone is a proud rural community with a rich history, a strong sense of place, and a wealth of opportunity.

History

First settled in 1802 then incorporated in 1853, the Village of Malone offers a wealth of social, cultural, and historical resources. The Village’s Downtown is a designated Historic District by the State of New York. Additionally, there are currently 5 active structures and sites on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). These recognized landmarks tie into the unique culture and history of Malone and serve as assets in defining what it should continue to look like in the years to come.

Attractions

The Village displays its civic pride by hosting several year-round events that attract both residents and out of towners alike. Festivals such as the Pearl St. Art Festival in May, and the Malone Summer Fest and Fieldstone Music Festival in June showcase the Village’s charm and bring food, games, and music in a family friendly setting. The Concerts in the Park series brings regional talents to the heart of Downtown in the Summer, and other events such as the Meals with Meaning annual fundraiser or the Business After Hours keep all the locals involved.

Recreation

Malone boasts a unique advantage in its geographic location. The Salmon River running through the Village provides a number of sightseeing, fishing, and boating opportunities. Malone is also the northernmost village of the Adirondack Trail scenic byway which runs through Franklin County and provides wonderful scenery while providing access to hiking, biking and other outdoor activities. Additionally, Malone sees a rise in tourism during the winter season from skiers visiting the Titus Mountain.

Downtown MALONE

As the most populous village in Franklin County, the Village of Malone serves as a regional hub with a prominent Downtown. The Village strives to be an ideal place of residence, work, and leisure for people of all ages and backgrounds. The proposed DRI boundary* is, by design, compact to showcase the desire to improve the pedestrian experience within the core of Downtown and make it inclusive for those living and navigating through it.

*This boundary is subject to change following the first meeting of the Malone DRI Local Planning Committee.

Your participation is important to making sure that the MALONE Downtown Revitalization Initiative is as successful as it can be!
